Following the announcement by the Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, that the statutory measure for winter grains will take effect from 1 October 2024, the SA Winter Cereal Industry Agency (SAWCIA) was established to administer the statutory measure.
The winter grains industry will benefit from the statutory levies as it will provide consistent financial support for market information, research, and transformation projects. The statutory measures cover levies for all winter cereal grains including wheat, barley, and oats.
Levies for the marketing year from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026 are:
WHEAT
R12.70 per metric tonne
BARLEY
R12.70 per metric tonne
OATS
R10.60 per metric tonne
